This was a new site for the Friends of Wellington Park and it was on the south east side of the mountain at Fern Tree. As it tended to have a fair amount of shade the weeds were mostly tall and scraggly. Some were in readily accessible spots, but others were in dense vegetation.
Adding poison to an invading pine |
Poisoning a radiata pine, Jayde and Kim |
Most commonly it was Spanish Heath with a few Radiata pines, which were attacked with a drill and poison. Other plants found were karamu, Cotoneaster and tree Lomatia. This latter one was the cause of a mistaken identification, with Peter cutting down what in all probability was an Orites diversifolia.
The terrain was at times rough and steep in parts, but a lot got done.
