Thick Thark Bauera
Tuesday 7 February 2023
It was a fine day and for some reason the mosquitoes and march flies were no bother. We walked to the start of the thick Bauera on the Thark Ridge Track, via Wellington Falls. Two PWS staff used hedge trimmers to breeze through the vegetation, whilst our job was to remove the cuttings and cut any bits that escaped the machines.
Just over 400 metres of dense vegetation was cleared, which only leaves another 100m of thick stuff. After that the vegetation is not so dense, but still significantly overgrowing the track.
This end of the track was previously cleared and marker poles added in January 2010 with the final section in Feb 2011.
See also the update on the end of the track.
