Windy Up High Calmer Lower Down

Tuesday 7 March 2023

It was to be the Spanish Heath above New Town Falls, but with strong winds blowing, our work was transferred to the park entrance at Lenah Valley

Initially Caper Spurge was checked at a known site and there were some there even though it was only June 2022 that it was last cleared. A Pittosporum cross breed tree was poisoned, thought to crossed with P bicolor. Nearby Broom site was also checked, and a few found. The site had been used for camping and there was lots of abandoned equipment (tent, sleeping bag, camping chair, containers and rubbish) all of which was removed.to be taken to a charity. Some mature spurge was also spotted and removed and new blackberry plants.

Commenced scouring site for Gorse seedlings and many were removed plus some larger bushes. Many were pulled but some needed cutting and herbicide.

Removing Californian Thistle from old pen.  Soil was just composted vegetation on a concrete floor
