Goat Hills Epacris

Tuesday 8 August 2023

In Goat Hills there is an interesting area, with plenty of the endemic claspleaf heath (Epacris acuminata), In June a check through the site and some Spanish heath was sighted there.

A larger scale search was conducted, and some Spanish heath was found and removed. Several were quite small and as the area is dense with the Epacris it was difficult to do a thorough search. Searching such extensive thickets is also made difficult by the need to avoid damaging/trampling the very plants threatened by the invasive Spanish heath.

The day was sunny, calm and got quite warm and the Epacris was in flower.

Map of route of two visits, blue being on the current date Between the two we covered a fair bit of the area.  The yellow labels are known sites to have had Spanish heath.  It is about 3 hectares and  E-W about 240m  N-S 150m
