New Town Falls Creek
Tuesday 29 November 2022
Earlier this year, Spanish heath was discovered growing along the creek above New Town Falls.
On Tuesday 29 November 2022, about half a dozen Friends of Wellington Park volunteers joined Hobart Bushcare team leader Bec Johnson at the end of Lenah Valley Road to walk up to the infestation. After a diversion to deal with caper spurge near the end of the road, we headed up the creek above Lenah Valley Fire Trail to the infestation.
We tackled some enormous Spanish heath plants growing in and near the creek bed, and carpets of small plants nearby.
We eliminated many patches, but another one remains further up the creek. We will try to eradicate this in March.
