First Timers

South Wellington

Monday 17 December 2018

This was our first venture with the city of Hobart tracks team. It had been postponed from earlier in the month but the weather was still not ideal, with rain in the morning but it was just thick mist by the time we arrived at the summit kunanyi Mount Wellington. The work involved rocking a boggy 20 m section of the South Wellington track.

At lunch time, to our surprise, drizzle commenced but the COH track team returned to work undeterred, so we felt we had better stay the distance. The track team were mighty impressive and were able to move large rocks to the site and skillfully place them in the track, ably joined by Greg in this pursuit.

We learnt quite a bit more about track work from the day.

Most of the hardening got done, but some remains and another day will be scheduled to complete the task.

Even in the conditions that prevailed, the flora was still quite colourful with plenty of Epacris (e serpyllifolia) out.

A follow up photo was planned but in the conditions when we finished I didn't feel inclined.
