Scrawny Gorse

Lenah Valley
Tuesday 6 August 2019
The task for the day was to remove some gorse in a small site where it had previously been cut down and left, but presumably never had herbicide applied.  It is a very dry site with hard rocky ground and little friable soil where gorse is the main vegetation able to grow there.  Most were very stunted and small with not a lot of green leaves and these had to tugged out of the ground.  Others were  often no more than 10cm, but multi-stemmed.
The area beyond that once had extensive gorse infestation, was successfully cleared with a grant in 2006 and only in last 12 months had any seedlings been spotted.  Some were removed, but others were at the cotyledon stage and have been left for next year after summer.

Packing up and ready to leave when I realised i didn't take a photo for the event.
