Kalang

 Wednesday 2 July 2025

This was joint effort with City of Hobart and Glenorchy City bushcare at the site of the Riding for Disabled centre in Kalang Avenue. The land is owned by the City of Hobart but lies within the Glenorchy local government area.

We tackled a variety of woody weeds, including hawthorn, cotoneaster and boneseed. A large patch of blackberry was brushcut by COH afterwards, leaving an uncut island of blackberry in the middle as shelter habitat that will treated later. The blackberry (and hemlock) will be sprayed in spring or summer, ready next winter or the winter after for planting.

Over morning tea (which is to be provided by Glenorchy City Council), Dr Phil Wise gave a talk. He spent 12 years working on conserving Tasmanian devils and more recently has led the Land for Wildlife program in southern Tasmania for the Tasmanian Land Conservancy.
