Horticultural Help

East Ridgeway

Thursday 28 October 2021

There is a large patch of tall Erica (Spanish Heath) in the bush in an area designated as East Ridgeway.   As a declared weed coming up in a large tract of otherwise clean bushland, it was a high priority.   FOWP have not worked here before, but with an offer of a group of volunteers, this location was chosen. Currently a few people have been trying to eradicate it and this would provide a big boost to their efforts.

It was a pleasant 20 minute walk from entrance gate at the Ridgeway reservoir to the work site.  An enthusiastic group of horticulture students helped and, along with some of our FOWP volunteers, managed to clear the patch of tall Erica and moved on to an area of small plants, which had come up following a management burn.   Most of this latter patch was cleared, but there remains a concentrated lot in among sags and grasses.

Working in the second area, in this case small Erica.
